Campuses Invited to Launch Study Voting Study

Updated: Apr 2, 2023

Campus Vote Project staff and students have developed in partnership with Dr. Emily Sydnor from Southwestern University the National Student Voting Study! The CVP Research Collective has created a survey study for colleges and universities to evaluate the unique motivators and barriers to student voting experiences on individual campuses. Our goal is to help campuses develop better practices for student voter engagement and minimize the impacts of potential campus barriers based on the results of the study.

The Student Voting Study will be running this semester! Participating campuses will receive their own copy of the Student Voting Survey via Qualtrics and will have the opportunity to add campus-specific questions at the end of the survey! For campuses that do not have Qualtrics, we have a limited number of licenses that we are sharing with those campuses.

The study includes a brief survey where student participants are asked to share their voter experiences and evaluate the impact of various factors on their likelihood to register and vote in previous elections. Additionally, respondents may choose to participate in a follow-up interview with Campus Vote Project study staff focused on civic and political conversations, activities, and experiences among students.

Please complete this quick Google form to indicate if you are interested in your campus participating: https://forms.gle/bbyY6FUcz3Cm1vXP6.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Campus Vote Project's Curriculum & Research Manager, Kassie Phebillo, at kphebillo@campusvoteproject.org.

Campus Vote Project National Research Study Identifying the Motivators and Barriers to Student Voting (ID# 17017) was given exempt determination by the University of Florida's IRB Research Operations Department on January 13, 2023.

We highly recommend campuses participate in the National Study for Learning, Voting and Engagement (NSLVE), hosted by Tufts University's Institute for Democracy and Higher Education. This is the only study that combines voter file data and campus enrollment information through the National Student Clearinghouse to determine voter turnout for college campuses. The Campus Vote Project Student Voting Study can be conducted on campuses that do not participate in NSLVE.
