After the Hispanic Heritage Month kick off with an El Grito event at TAMIU’s campus, festivities and activities continue at the institution to commemorate and celebrate Hispanic triumphs and culture.
TAMIU’s El Grito event featured around 500 students gathering for traditional Mexican food and performances by the school’s Mariachi Internacional and TAMIU Ballet Folklórico.
TAMIU Hispanic Heritage Month events are the result of a collaboration between the TAMIU Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement, the student organization Campus Activities Board, the TAMIU Office for International Engagement and the TAMIU Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Committee. According to TAMIU, Dr. Peter Haruna encourages the community in general to participate in enrichment activities celebrating the socio-economic, cultural and intellectual contributions of Hispanic people to our society. “Each year, our campus diversity, equity and inclusion partners work diligently to curate a calendar of events appropriate for each of the heritage months we observe, and Hispanic Heritage Month is no exception,” Haruna said. “We invite the public to attend our events and activities while sharing their thoughts and ideas with us on what it means to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.”
